Understanding Habits
This is
a basic outline for a habit sequence. How a sequence actually
occurs, varies from person to person and can be more complex.
~ The habit
sequence is very fast or instant. The subconscious mind works as
a simple reaction, not with analysis like your conscious mind.
This can make it feel like your are not able to control your
habits as they can happen before your conscious mind 'knows' about
it. The original reason for the learned reaction does not
need to be known for behavior modification to be effective.
~ It is said
that around 80% of our day is controlled by subconscious
activity. This may seem odd to consider. But, if you
look at the things you do all day; walking, breathing,
digestion, posture, your work activity, driving, cooking,
exercise, etc.. It can be done in a "mindless" unfocused way.
Being done based on your previous experience and practice.

Step 3 |
| A
person is not always aware of the trigger for a particular
habit. But, there is always some situation or circumstance
that sets a habit sequence into motion. |
The feeling in a habit sequence seems to be the most
unnoticed step. All day long we act and react based on how
we feel about the events around us. |
The action in a habit sequence can be mental, physical, or
both. The action happens quickly and automatically without
the need for conscious thought. |
